Built in 1929-1930 and extensively restored by Sam Caruso in 2003, Bridgefield Guest House carries forward a tradition of hospitality that began on this site in the 1890s. What you experience today reflects meticulous preservation, restoration, and craftsmanship - incorporating post-Victorian architectural elements with modern comfort.
Spread across three heritage buildings, our accommodation offers six thoughtfully appointed rooms and two suites. Each space honours the property's history while providing contemporary amenities. From the original front building housing our renowned Italian restaurants, to The Cabin's intimate seclusion, to The Gallery's sweeping balconies - every corner tells a story.
Our collection of classic Jaguars and Thunderbird invites you to experience the romance of vintage travel through the Margaret River region. Pizzica and La Scarpetta provide exceptional dining without leaving the property. The full view of Bridgefield Guest House as it is today
This site's hospitality tradition began when Thomas and Elizabeth Higgins operated a staging post and stables, serving travellers on the route to Margaret River. Their legacy of welcoming guests continued when daughter Agnes commenced a boarding house that operated for many years until 1989, hosting school-teachers, bank employees, itinerant workers and travellers.
The current building, originally known as New Bridgefield, was built in 1929-1930 by Gavin Forrest following the death of Thomas Edward Higgins, providing income for his widow Elizabeth and daughter Agnes. This was the second accommodation house of its name, replacing the original Bridgefield built in 1894 across the road by the Old Settlement.
Extensive restoration work by the Higgins family following Agnes's death laid the groundwork for Bridgefield's transformation. In 2003, Sam Caruso purchased the property and undertook comprehensive renovations, incorporating his distinctive approach to preservation, restoration, and craftsmanship to create what you see today.
In 2013, La Scarpetta Trattoria opened on the premises and Pizzica shortly thereafter to create two exceptional Italian dining experiences. Today, Bridgefield proudly continues almost 100 years of hospitality tradition, now reimagined for the modern traveller seeking authentic heritage accommodation.

Our original building houses the property's heritage heart. Period furnishings, original architectural details and private ensuites. Pizzica and La Scarpetta restaurants are adjacent and below ground floor.
Self-Contained Unit
Intimate self-contained accommodation situated between our heritage buildings. Private cottage style building with terrace provides independence while maintaining connection to Bridgefield's character.
Two Rooms & One Suite
Two-storey weatherboard building with sweeping balconies and post-Victorian styling. Two rooms share a communal seating area and kitchen. Our premium suite offers full independence with private kitchen, spa bath and BBQ facilities on the balcony.
